ORRI Reinforcement Forum 2024

On October 7, 2024, the UNIQUE project was selected to present at the ORRI Reinforcement Forum 2024 as an example of best practices in Open and Responsible Research and Innovation. Thanks to this opportunity, UNIQUE shared key advances in its goal of creating a more accessible and inclusive urban environment for people with disabilities.

One of the main features we highlight from UNIQUE is its focus on inclusive citizen science, where people with disabilities not only participate as study subjects but also become active citizen scientists. This approach allows them to collaborate in the organization, development, and dissemination of results, ensuring that their perspectives are considered at every stage of the project. Additionally, throughout the project's development, inclusive methodologies were implemented, such as the creation of an accessible website, materials in braille, and other resources to ensure the full participation of all those involved.

During the forum, the UNIQUE team addressed some important achievements:

  • Development of an inclusive participatory methodology, designed to facilitate access to information and ensure the accessibility of the tools used.
  • Transformation of individuals with disabilities into active agents in the research process, moving beyond the traditional role of passive subjects.
  • Amplification of the voices of people with disabilities, both within disability studies circles and on an international scale.
  • Global dissemination of the project and its results, aiming for them to be replicated and adapted in other communities and cities.

To encourage debate and reflection on how to continue advancing inclusion, UNIQUE posed the following question at the forum:

"How can we collectively foster more inclusive practices that empower people with disabilities as co-creators of knowledge and agents of change in urban innovation?"

The UNIQUE project continues to advance in the creation of inclusive urban tools and practices, aiming to inspire a global transformation in how we design our cities and ensuring that everyone, regardless of disability, can enjoy an accessible and participatory environment.
